Centenary of the First World War in New Zealand
    (Freie Universität Berlin, 16/01/2020) Phillips J; Baird K; Daniel, U; Gatrell, P; Janz, O; Jones, H; Keene, J; Kramer, A; Nasson, B
There was a large investment of government funds in the centenary commemoration of the First World War in New Zealand. This resulted in big government projects such as the creation of the Pukeahu National War Memorial Park in Wellington, official publications, exhibitions, and digital resources. It also encouraged a remarkable number of community activities including exhibitions, family histories, new local memorials, art works, and performances. Previously under-represented groups were involved, and the indigenous Māori community was central to many commemorative activities. A legacy of this investment is an increased knowledge and understanding about the war.
