- ItemBusiness strategies and tournament incentives: Evidence from China(Elsevier, 2021) Huang J; Sun L; Habib AWe investigate the association between business strategy and firm-level tournament incentives in China and find that business strategy is associated with tournament incentives positively. We further find that this positive relationship manifests itself in local, but not central, state-owned enterprises (SOEs). In addition, we also offer some evidence that foreign institutional investors play a moderating role on the positive association between business strategy and tournament incentives. Our study fills a gap in the existing tournament literature by incorporating business strategy as an important determinant of tournament incentives in China.

Lung cancer, in particular, poses significant obstacles due to late-stage diagnosis and limited treatment options. While advancements in molecular diagnostics have been made, there is a critical need to connect the dots between laboratory and hospital for better lung cancer treatment. Systemic therapy plays a crucial role in treating advanced-stage lung cancer, and recent efforts have focused on developing innovative drug delivery techniques. Nanoparticles (NPs) have emerged as a promising approach to lung cancer treatment, offering enhanced drug delivery, active targeting, and reduced toxicity. Organic-based nanomaterials, like polymeric nanoparticles, solid lipid nanoparticles, and liposomes hold great potential in this field. This review examines the application of NPs in lung cancer treatment, highlights current therapies, explores organic nanoparticle-based approaches, and discusses limitations and future perspectives in clinical translation.
- ItemOlder Chinese adults' milk consumption habits: A study across 5 cities(Elsevier Inc. on behalf of the American Dairy Science Association, 2024-06) Chen A; Moradi S; Huang J; Xu S; Sismey M; Hort JMilk consumption in China has experienced a rapid growth over the past few decades. This study explored milk consumption habits of older Chinese adult regular milk consumers, by investigating what, where, when, with whom, why, and how milk was consumed. This study (n = 1,000) was conducted in 5 cities in China (first tier: Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou; second tier: Chengdu and Shenyang) with participants balanced by sex and age groups (45-55 and 65-75 yr old). Given different economies, general dietary habits, and lifestyles, differences in milk consumption habits between cities were hypothesized. The results showed that almost all participants consumed cow milk, at home and by direct drinking. Most participants consumed milk during breakfast, with their family and for nutrition and health purposes. However, variations by city were found in what type of, what fat level of, what brand of, when and how milk was consumed. Multiple factor analysis showed that "what" variable differentiated cities between tiers and among the first-tier cities, and that "when" and "how" variables also separated the 2 second-tier cities and from the first-tier cities. Although variation in how milk was consumed was also observed between sexes and age groups, hierarchical cluster analysis revealed that the 4 clusters of milk consumption habits derived were mainly differentiated by city: Beijing and Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, and Shenyang. This study provides comprehensive insights into the milk consumption habits of older Chinese adults and highlights the significant heterogeneity in milk consumption habits in China by city.
- ItemSoil Microbial Community Composition and Diversity Are Insusceptible to Nitrogen Addition in a Semi-Arid Grassland in Northwestern China(MDPI (Basel, Switzerland), 2023-10-11) Tuo H; Li M; Ghanizadeh H; Huang J; Yang M; Wang Z; Wang Y; Tian H; Ye F; Li W; Monokrousos NHuman-caused nitrogen (N) deposition is a global environmental issue that can change community composition, functions, and ecosystem services. N deposition affects plants, soil, and microorganisms regionally and is linked to ecosystem, soil, and climate factors. We examined the effects of six N addition levels (0, 2.34 g, 4.67, 9.34,18.68, and 37.35 g N m−2 yr−1) on aboveground vegetation, surface soil properties, and microbial community. Alterations in microbial communities in response to N addition were monitored using 16S rRNA (16S ribosomal ribonucleic acid, where S donates a sedimentation coefficient) and ITS (internal transcribed spacer) regions for bacterial and fungal communities, respectively. N addition positively affected aboveground vegetation traits, such as biomass and community weighted mean of leaf nitrogen. N addition also limited phosphorus (P) availability and altered the microbial community assembly process from random processes to deterministic processes. The microbial community diversity and composition, however, were not sensitive to N addition. Partial least squares structural equation models showed that the composition of bacterial communities was mainly driven by the composition of plant communities and total nitrogen, while the composition of fungal communities was driven by soil pH and community weighted mean of leaf nitrogen. Taken together, the results of this research improved our understanding of the response of grassland ecosystems to N deposition and provided a theoretical basis for grassland utilization and management under N deposition.
