The passive motion of a small body under the influence of small amplitude waves in deep water is considered. This motion is broken down into one component due to gravity and one due to the drag forces of the water. Two similar existing models describing this situation are discussed and the major differences between these models are outlined. A detailed investigation shows the role of the centripetal force and how it can be included in the models.en
