Abstract
This Master of Fine Arts exegesis examines my artistic practice and research which focuses on the intersections of whakapapa, customary Māori knowledge, and contemporary craft. Grounded in the guiding principles of whakapapa, rangatira, awhina me te ākina, whanaungatanga, and mātauranga, the research explores traditional Māori net-making technologies and materials to create sculptural taonga that honour cultural heritage while engaging with contemporary art practice.
