Abstract
The Tuapaka hill block is set in a regional geological and physiographic context. Classification and mapping concepts and soil survey techniques are critically examined. A soil inventory of the study area is concluded through the erection of a local soil classification and depicted in a soil map at scale 1:5000, using concepts and techniques that accommodate hill country conditions. Selected soil parameters related to soil genesis are examined for important soils. Conclusions pertaining to pedogenic processes operating in the study area and classification and mapping concepts are discussed. The local soil classification is correlated with the New Zealand Zonal Soil Classification and Soil Taxonomy.
