Abstract

Cosmetic issues result in major losses and rejection of many fruits at both initial grading and the final market. This is especially true for countries like New Zealand which due to their isolation, transport fresh produce large distances and rely on quality to make it viable. Kiwifruit have recently been identified to suffer from a superficial injury termed Superficial Skin Rub (SSR). This injury was noticed after transport in both New Zealand and some countries outside New Zealand. SSR is a concern for the kiwifruit industry due to the cosmetic changes characteristic of SSR.--Shortened abstract
